The African Road Safety
Conference was held from 5 – 7 February 2007 in Accra, Ghana. It was co-organised
by the World Health Organization and the UN Economic Commission for
Africa, with support from a number of agencies, notably the Swedish
International Development Agency, the FIA Foundation for the Automobile
and Society, the Sub-Saharan African Transport Policy Program, the World
Bank, the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, and
the Global Road Safety Partnership. More than 250 delegates attended the
conference
The following African
countries were represented: Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso,
Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic
Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya,
Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique,
Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa,
Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In addition,
the following international organizations participated: United Nations
Economic Commission for Africa, World Health Organization, Sub-Saharan
African Transport Policy Programme, World Bank, Economic Community for
West African States (ECOWAS), FIA Foundation, Department for
International Development (DFID), SITRASS, Handicap International, and
Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP). |
